What is World Tourism Day and why do we celebrate it?

Tourism is one of the world’s most important economic sectors:

  • It employees one in 10 people on Earth
  • It provides livelihoods to hundreds of millions more
  • For some countries, it can represent over 20% of their GDP.

Socially, tourism allows people to experience some of the world’s cultural and natural riches and brings people closer to each other.

The global economic crisis, natural disasters, and of course, the pandemic, has been tough for the tourism industry. But it has shown huge resilience, experiencing almost uninterrupted growth.

International tourism saw a strong rebound in the first five months of 2022, with almost 250 million international arrivals recorded. Meaning the sector has recovered almost half of pre-pandemic 2019 levels.

The many important contributions of tourism encouraged the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to institute World Tourism Day in 1980.

Since then, we have celebrated tourism every year on 27th September to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.

PORTO MONTENEGRO: INSPIRING A LIFE LESS ORDINARY

Porto Montenegro is a luxury waterfront community, a vibrant nautical village, and a state-of-the-art superyacht marina. Established in 2009, Porto Montenegro has grown into a premium, full-service marina and residential village in the Adriatic region.

Propeller was brought in to design a visually stunning website that oozed the luxury of the community. It needed to make it easy for users to discover Porto Montenegro’s vast range of offerings via a logical and intuitive sitemap and navigation. Importantly, it needed to actively encourage users to make enquiries and contact the Porto teams.

The result was a visually spectacular, elegantly stylish, and inspiring site that reflected the ‘life less ordinary’. We reduced the average bounce rate on the site from 55% to 30%.

FREESTREAM AIRCRAFT: REDEFINING DIGITAL FOR LUXURY AIRCRAFTS

Founded in 1992, Freestream Aircraft is an experienced, global business aircraft sales, acquisitions, and charter company. They have a legacy of innovation, turnkey design services, and commitment to sustainability which needed to come to life at every digital touchpoint.

We built a highly customised website design to showcase their world class inventory with beautifully crafted landing pages and charter brochure. To improve their visibility, we focused on optimising existing blog articles and new pages to improve primary keywords ranking. The result was an astounding 400% increase in website traffic.

THE PARKGATE HOTEL: A NEW CHAPTER FOR CELTIC COLLECTION

The Parkgate Hotel is Cardiff’s finest luxury hotel within touching distance of Principality Stadium. Echoing all the elegance and glamour of its historic setting, this chic spot to meet, eat and relax is part of the exclusive Celtic Collection. This project was the start of a digital transformation partnership between Propeller and leading hospitality group, The Celtic Collection.

We worked to convert the online experience into a leading digital destination for staying in the heart of Wales. Creating a brochure site to effectively showcase the stunning space, the team at Propeller connected it with a new booking flow within a bespoke WordPress template. 

The team also created sectional landing pages with a bespoke mobile experience, as well as SEO, content planning and turnkey content deployment to better grow brand awareness and drive discovery.

 

TŶ HOTELS: A NEW KIND OF HOSPITALI-TŶ

If you’re staying at a Tŷ Hotel, you’re there to get something done. Whether that’s a meeting, sporting event, a family get-together or a chance to explore somewhere new and take in the sights, you’ll need somewhere to get your head down. At the end of the day, a warm welcome and a comfortable room is just what you need. They’re all about easy check in, good Wifi, and a great home away from home.

As part of an on-going partnership between Propeller and the Celtic Collection, Tŷ Hotels needed a platform to help each one of their new hotels stand out. 

We are transforming their previous collective site into seven stand alone sites. Each one showcasing the luxury hotels and groups that form the historic Celtic Collection.

The collection’s branch of essential, modern spaces, Tŷ Hotels was launched with a new website that allowed customers to find out more about upcoming Tŷ Hotel launches in Milford Waterfront and Newport. 

 

BIRCH: BRINGING THE BRAND TO LIFE

Set within 55 acres of nature, just 30 minutes from London, Birch is part hotel, part foodie haven, part members’ club, part working space, part wellness getaway, part creative hub, and all parts fun.

Birch needed a website that not only enticed prospective members, but allowed existing ones to easily make bookings, view menus, book classes and learn about all the unique experiences that the Birch Community had to offer.

Our priority was creating an integrated booking flow for the most seamless guest journey from bedrooms to foodie experiences, classes and event bookings. Bringing this exquisite brand to the market required extensive digital storytelling and ensuring an attractive proposition for customers.

This new approach resulted in a 19% increase in new users and a 46% increase in page views over the course of a year.
